Earthquake hits Aleutian Islands of US
September 27th, 2010 - 2:45 am ICT by IANSNew York, Sep 27 (IANS) An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale jolted Aleutian Islands of the US state of Alaska Sunday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.
The tremor occurred about 9:27 a.m. local time (1827 GMT) at a depth of 226 km, with its epicentre some 2,070 km west-southwest of Anchorage, Xinhua reported citing the USGS.
No tsunami warning was issued after the earthquake, whose magnitude was preliminarily measured at 6.2 by the USGS.
