Duchess of Cornwall Camilla breaks leg while hillwalking in Scotland
April 9th, 2010 - 4:20 pm ICT by ANILondon, Apr 9 (ANI): Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, was left with a broken leg after she slipped while hillwalking in Scotland, revealed the Clarence House.
The 62-year-old wife of Prince Charles suffered a twisted fracture of her left fibula when she slipped while outdoors.
The break was only confirmed by an x-ray.
A Clarence House spokeswoman said that although doctors have advised her not to put any weight on her leg, she wants to continue with all her official engagements.
Camilla has been staying at Birkhall, the Prince of Wales’s private home on the Queen’s Balmoral estate.
“Yesterday while hillwalking in slippery conditions in Scotland, the Duchess of Cornwall took a tumble and hurt her leg,” the Sun quoted the Clarence House as saying in a statement.
“Today, following doctor’s advice, her royal highness had an x-ray which showed a twisted fracture of the fibula.
“Consequently her royal highness is wearing a plaster cast and will be for six weeks.
“She has been advised not to put weight on her leg. Her royal highness has every intention of carrying out all planned engagements,” it added.
However, Clarence House did not disclose at which hospital Camilla was treated or the exact location of the accident.
Camilla was on her traditional Easter break at Birkhall with the Prince when the accident occurred.
A Clarence House spokeswoman later described how Camilla was coping with the situation, saying: “The Duchess is cheerful and it’s a case of ‘Life goes on - it could be worse,’” (ANI)
