March 25th, 2010 - 8:51 pm ICT by Angela Kaye MasonMar 25 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A teacher from Southern California has been arrested for teaching under the influence. She was taken into custody from Toro Canyon Middle School in Thermal, California on Tuesday and booked into the Indio Jail. The charges were felony child endangerment, even though it has been said that no children were ever actually in any danger. The case is under investigation.
School administrators made the call to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department asking them to send a deputy to Thermal, California Toro Canyon Middle School when they first became under the impression that the teacher, 47 year old Tonya Neff was drunk. Sgt Mike Tapp of the Sherriff’s Department confirmed that Ms. Neff had taken prescription drugs and had an alcoholic beverage in a container which was in her possession while she was teaching. She was said to have been drinking the beverage while trying to teach her class.
The children in the seventh grade class were never in any danger, according to the opinion of the school district’s superintendent, Ricardo Medina. Ms. Taff has been placed on temporary leave, pending the investigation.
