Drugs worth $2.3 mn seized in Ireland
September 21st, 2011 - 9:15 am ICT by IANSDublin, Sep 21 (IANS) Cannabis worth 1.7 million euro ($2.3 million) has been seized in Ireland, in one of the major hauls in recent times, police said.
Some 300 kg of cannabis were found by the police drug unit in a truck in County Kildare. The drugs were hidden in tiles transported from Spain, Xinhua reported.
The seizure comes after a spate of raids on cannabis farms in the country.
According a recent survey in Ireland, more than a fifth of people have tried cannabis.
More than a quarter of those who tried the drug said that at one point in their lives they smoked regularly. Almost 90 percent of recent users said they gained access to cannabis from family and friends, as opposed to buying it from a dealer.
