Drive against illegal constructions in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, Jan 21 (IANS/WAM) The Abu Dhabi authority has launched a crackdown against illegal constructions in the city as part of its campaign to provide industrial workers with better living condition.All illegal makeshift houses and commercial units will be demolished and workers living in congested accommodation will be shifted to the residential units having decent facilities of healthcare and other amenities.

The Campaign, launched by the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City in coordination with the labour ministry and the General Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police, is aimed at providing suitable accommodation to labours in the city.

The acting executive director of the Municipal Services Sector, Uwaidah Al Qubaisi, said: “The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City is running this campaign out of its social responsibility and in response to the calls made by the inhabitants of those areas besides the need to maintain the health and safety of workers themselves, provide them with decent living and cement the communal and institutional interaction.”

The authority has also developed five workers cities with a capacity to house about 300,000 workers.
