Kabul, Oct 26 (Xinhua) The US-led coalition forces have killed dozens of militants in the eastern Afghan province of Ghazni, a coalition statement issued here said Sunday. A coalition patrol in Qara Bagh district confronted armed militants firing on the troops from fortified fighting position, the statement said.
“Coalition forces defended themselves by engaging the militants with small-arms fire and close air support with precision munitions until insurgent threat was eliminated,” it said.
“It is estimated multiple militants were killed during the fighting,” the statement said.
The coalition troops did not suffer casualty, it said.
Spiralling insurgency-related conflicts and violence have left nearly 5,000 people dead till date this year in Afghanistan as the rebels intensified offensive against interests of Afghan government and international troops before the onset of winter.
