April 6th, 2010 - 12:04 am ICT by IANSNew York, April 5 (DPA) Police Monday arrested more than 50 people following a shootout in which four people were injured at different locations in Manhattan after the Sunday opening of the New York International Auto Show.
A police spokesman said youths who attended the show at the Jacob A Javits Centre, about a kilometre west of Times Square, broke into a fight and the shooting began as they ran through streets after midnight.
“Young men were looking for trouble,” said New York Police Department spokesman Paul Browne, adding that similar incidents had happened in past years.
The shootings took place at two locations in midtown. Police said a man was shot in the ankle and three women were shot in the ankle and elbow by small handguns.
Local news reports said police were prepared for youth-related incidents at this time of year in areas surrounding Times Square, with street hustlers targeting tourists and crowds taking part in the auto show.
