Dog rescued three weeks after Japan quake
April 2nd, 2011 - 9:43 pm ICT by IANSTokyo, April 2 (IANS) A dog has been rescued by Japan’s Coast Guard 21 days after the devastating magnitude-9 earthquake rocked the country, a media report said Saturday.
Rescuers found the dog on the roof of a partially destroyed building Friday. After efforts to rescue the dog using a helicopter failed, they used a boat and succeeded, RIA Novosti reported citing the Kyodo news agency.
The toll in the March 11 earthquake and tsunami has risen to 11,800, while 15,540 people were still unaccounted for till Saturday, the National Police Agency said.
The disaster triggered a number of explosions at the Fukushima nuclear power plant.
