Dhaka’s Ramakrishna Mission chief dead

Dhaka, April 19 (IANS) Swami Akkharananda, head of the Ramakrishna Mission here, was cremated Tuesday, a day after he died of old age complications. He was 82, media reports said.
He breathed his last at the Apollo Hospital here.
“He was admitted to the hospital last month with diabetic, kidney and other complications,” Mission’s adviser Prabir Kumar Saha said.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock at his death, news website bdnews24.com reported.
Born in 1929 in Satkhira, a town near Bangladesh-India border, Akkharananda was the vice-principal of Narendrapur Ramakrishna Mission in India’s West Bengal state before he joined the Dhaka Ramakrishna Mission in 1974, New Age said.
Founded by Ramakrishna Paramahans, a 19th century saint and social reformer, Ramakrishna Mission is a worldwide movement that undertakes social work, besides spreading the message of Hinduism.
