Dhaka wants task force to prevent terror funding

Sheikh Hasina Dhaka, March 27 (IANS) Bangladesh has said it would like the anti-terrorism task force, which it wants to set up with its neighbours, to prevent funding of militant bodies.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government will discuss how to strengthen its effort in tackling financial supports to extremists and combating terrorism, Minister of State for Home Tanjim Ahmed Sohel Taj said Friday.

Taj did not elaborate on the proposal that has been broadly discussed with India, the US and some other countries.

It came up for discussion when Indian External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee met Hasina here last month.

“Discussions will be from different aspects, including regional cooperation and logically there will also be the dialogues relating to a task force,” Star Online quoted the minister as saying.

Taj, however, claimed that terrorist activities of the extremist religious groups are under control.

His statement comes in the wake of his senior colleague Finance Minister A.M.A. Muhith accusing local NGOs having foreign funding of fomenting militancy in the country.
