Dhaka artiste sings non-stop for 5 hours

Dhaka, Jan 29 (IANS) Renowned Bangladeshi exponent of Hindustani classical music Dada Tapan Kanti Baidya has sung non-stop for five hours, hoping to set a world record. At the solo musical soiree last Wednesday, Baidya performed well past midnight to the accompaniment of seveal instrumentalists - Tapan Sarkar (pakhawaj); Devbrata Chowdhury and Dilip Chakroborty (tabla); Dilruba Aktar, Mozaffor Hossain, Tapasi Ghosh and Prodip Sarkar (tanpura) and Mintu Krishna Paul, Mohammad Sakur and Shantanu (harmonium).

Baidya is the initiator of dhrupad-dhamar in Bangladesh, The Daily Star reported.

The solo soiree also witnessed the launch of a VCD, Sangeet Guru Ananda series, which offers the fastest way to learn North Indian classical music in only two months.
