July 7, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): A prosecutor in Detroit has expressed her desire that the legislators of the area ratify an ordinance that has the provision of imprisoning parents for up to three days for continually not attending scheduled parent-teacher conferences.
Kym Worthy is the Wayne County prosecutor in question. She has elucidated that such an ordinance is required in order to ensure that parents are more in charge of their children’s academic present. Such an ordinance will institutionalize the responsibility of parents towards their kids’ educational present and future. This will ensure the generation of conscientious youngsters, who are less likely to fall in distress.
Kym Worthy has mentioned that she is presently functioning to create a comprehensive legislation on the issue. She has hinted that her legislative idea could travel to the county commissioners in August. Worthy is also taking into consideration whether to come up to state policymakers with her legislative idea.
Campaigners for the enforcement of constitutional rights have stated that Worthy’s vision might be unconstitutional and that there will be opposition to this plan.
Republican Representative of the Kentucky state, Adam Koenig, had rendered a comparable legislation in 2009 that was not able to secure considerable approval and did not make it out of committee.
