Detroit, Jan 24 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A gunman walked into the Detroit police precinct on Sunday and opened fire on the officers.

Four officers were shot by the gunman before he was killed by the police. The police are holding on to the identity of the shooter.

The shooting which comes in the wake of the Tucson shooting that claimed the lives of six people and 14 including Congresswoman Gabriel Giffords critically injured have led many people to say that security ought to be reviewed in the United States.

The Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee believes that it is about time that security at most facilities in the country is reassessed.

Godbee revealed that, “It’s more than likely we will be changing a number of things relative to standard operating procedures as to how we screen our public before they come in.”

The Detroit police precinct has no metal detectors and visitors are always welcomed into the facility with open arms. The officials maintained that that was the way to ensure that the community could freely approach the police.

The victims are all expected to recover from the incident. One female officer who was shot in the chest was saved by her bulletproof vest. She has already been released from the hospital.
