London, Nov 19 (ANI): A Scotland Yard police constable, who has been branded “despicable”, has been sacked after he had “non-consensual sex” with a drunken woman at a central London rail station.

The 43-year-old officer was an off-duty member of the Met’s special operations wing and had sex with a severely intoxicated woman after an evening out in the capital.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission passed the case file to the Crown Prosecution Service but criminal charges were not brought due to a lack of evidence.

CCTV footage from the 2009 incident shows the officer, who had been drinking in a pub near Russell Square, talking to a woman in her early-20s before they embraced each other.

In a subsequent police interview the officer said that the woman complained of feeling unwell so he took her into the pub where he got her a glass of water and she was sick.

Though he knew the woman’s friends were at a hotel, the officer took her to St Pancras station where he was due to sleep in a police locker room before starting a shift.

The woman told police she woke up in the room to find the man having sex with her and had little memory of the evening.

The IPCC launched an investigation in March last year after the woman told police she had been raped and the officer has now been dismissed following a hearing of an internal misconduct panel.

Rachel Cerfontyne, of the IPCC, branded the police officer’s actions as “nothing short of despicable”.

“The actions of this officer will rightly appal the public as they have appalled me. His behaviour was in my view predatory and he exploited the vulnerability of a young woman,” the Daily Mail quoted her as saying.

“He removed her from the safety of a social function, where she had friends who could have taken care of her, took her to police premises and had sex with her without her consent.

“He then sent her out alone, in the middle of the night, with bus fare to get home. His conduct would be contemptible from anyone; from a police officer it is nothing short of despicable,” she stated.

Though the officer was found to have had non-consensual sex with the woman, he has not faced a charge of rape as the CPS could not determine whether there was a realistic prospect of a criminal conviction.

Commenting on the case, Commander Mark Simmons of the Met said the officer in question acted in an “intolerable way”, and that he has been dismissed from the Met. (ANI)
