Delhi CWG organisers ask Oz company to give back ‘overpaid’ amount
April 18th, 2011 - 3:40 pm ICT by ANICanberra, Apr 17 (ANI): An Australian company that was dudded out of millions by Delhi Commonwealth Games organisers has been asked to pay back some of the minimal money they have received.
The development has come as the scandal has drawn in the English royal family, with Prince Edward, vice-patron of the Commonwealth Games Federation, lashing out at the Delhi organisers’ attitude to payments
“His royal highness has expressed his empathy … as he is aware of the ongoing problems and the extremely frustrating situation. Those who have had anything to do with the Delhi Organising Committee share your frustration at the poor management of this and other parts of the Games,” The Telegraph quoted private secretary to the Prince, as saying.
However, Jamal Singh, organising committee CEO has claimed that Howard and Sons owes the organisers 500 dollars, which they claim had been “overpaid” to him.
Singh also claimed that Sydney Games maestro Ric Birch’s company, still owed 350,000 dollars, had committed a “serious breach of the contract and is responsible for all the losses suffered by OC (organising committee)”.
Howard and Sons boss Andrew Howard, however, refuted the allegations, saying: “They are fair dinkum kidding themselves. What a joke.” (ANI)
