Danish royals near-naked portrait wins Bald ArchyMarch 10th, 2008 - 4:23 pm ICT by admin
Melbourne, Mar 10 (ANI): A satirical portrait of a nursing Crown Princess Mary with thunder thighs and a near-naked Crown Prince Frederik with his hand on his “wedding tackle” has won the Bald Archy portrait prize.
Despite many entries, James Brennan’s The Official Portrait of the Danish Royal Family took the top honours in the Archibald spoof.
The 33-year-old Brennan from Aberglassyn near Newcastle, said the idea popped into his head while he was vacuuming.
During the (imaginary) sitting for the portrait, Mary popped out her boobs to feed baby Isabella while Frederik, wearing only white y-fronts and socks with thongs, chugged on Carlsberg beers and constantly adjusted his wedding tackle, News.com.au quoted Brennan, as saying.
Brennan, a railway station worker, reckons the royal family would get a kick out of the painting if they ever saw it, despite his decision to widen Mary’s thighs.
“Mary being Australian, she might have a bit of an ocker sense of humour, she might appreciate it,” he said.
Brennan won 5,000 dollars as prize money, which he plans to spend on a new garden shed and may one day enter the slightly more prestigious Archibald Prize.
“I’d love to, if I could meet someone famous to paint. I don’t know anyone, really,” he said.
The Bald Archy Prize was created in 2004 as a spoof of Australia’s most prestigious art award, the Archibald. (ANI)
