Copenhagen, July 22 (DPA) Danish football international Jesper Gronkjaer is likely to miss out on the rest of the season after undergoing knee surgery, reports said Tuesday. Coach Stale Solbakken from his club Copenhagen said it was “difficult” to see the forward make a comeback this autumn, suggesting the speedy winger will miss out on Denmark’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Hungary and Portugal in September.

“The main thing is that Jesper Gronkjaer can play football again,” Stale told the online site spn.dk.

The 30-year-old winger has undergone a total three operations on his right knee.

He earlier played for Ajax Amsterdam, Chelsea, Birmingham City, Atletico Madrid and VfB Stuttgart before transferring to Copenhagen in 2006.
