Stockholm, Aug 17 (IANS) Daniel Chopra put himself within striking distance of his first European Tour title, as he narrowed the gap with the leader Swedish Peter Hanson down to two shots at the end of the third round of the SAS Masters in Stockholm. Indo-Swede Chopra, making a rare appearance on the European Tour, could put himself into contention for a place on the European Ryder Cup team with a good showing here. He shot a three-under 67, which would have been even better but for the double bogey on the par-3 fourth hole and a bogey on the sixth.
Hanson is two ahead at 10-under 200. Chopra is at eight-under 202 alongside Nick Dougherty, Pelle Edberg, Soren Kjeldsen and Gary Orr.
Chopra, who won the Mercedes Championships on the PGA Tour this year, opened with a birdie on the third and after the double bogey on the fourth, he birdied the next, which was also a par-3.
Birdies on the eighth and ninth and then again two more on the 14th and 16th gave him a 67 and a shot at the title.
Hanson had one bogey on third and three other birdies in his 68.
“I am happy with my position. I was five behind after first round and three after second and now two. If I play a good round Sunday, who know (what can happen),” said Chopra, who will be playing the FedEx play-off next week on PGA Tour
