Dalai Lama issues warning on melting Tibetan glaciers
April 3rd, 2011 - 12:52 pm ICT by ANILhasa, Apr.3 (ANI): The Dalai Lama has warned that glaciers in Tibet are melting faster than those in other parts of the world.
The glaciers are considered to be vital lifelines for Asian rivers, like the Indus and the Ganga, as once they vanish water supply in these regions will be gravely affected, The Scotsman reports.
Speaking during the centenary celebrations of India’s former President R Venkataraman in New Delhi, the Dalai Lama said India should be concerned about Tibet’s melting glaciers as millions of Indians use water that comes from them.
Dalai Lama’s warning comes in the wake of a rare US recomendation that the US should work with China for the economic development and cultural preservation of the region. (ANI)
