CSKA Moscow can be thrown out of Europe on doping charges
December 9th, 2009 - 6:10 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )London, Dec. 9 (ANI): Following their two players testing positive in drugs tests, CSKA Moscow may be thrown out of Europe.
Russian defenders Alexei Berezutsky and Sergei Ignashevich have been provisionally suspended from all games after testing positive for a banned stimulant during a game against Manchester United, The Mirror reports.
The tests were carried out following the 3-3 clash at Old Trafford on November 3.
UEFA’s disciplinary committee will hear the case on December 17 but under the European body’s regulations, if more than one player tests positive for banned drugs, action can be taken against the team. The Russian club have defended the players and claim it was down to a “clerical error”, claiming both players were given Sudafed while battling colds on international duty, but that CSKA’s medical staff had failed to include the medication on a list handed to UEFA.
