London, Apr 8 (THAINDIAN NEWS) In a London hospital, the British doctors were successful in separating conjoined Irish twins – Hassan and Hussein Benhaffaf. The conjoined twins were born in Cork, Ireland and they were attached together at the chest, prior to their surgery. The best part was that both the twins had all their own individual major organs, and didn’t share any of them, otherwise the surgery might have been more complicated.

At the Great Ormond Street Hospital there was a team of around 20 doctors and nurses who carried out the phenomenal surgery to separate the twins. The surgery took around 14 hours and was performed on Wednesday. After the surgery, the doctor who was leading the team, said that the twins are currently in intensive care, and they are stable.

The parents of Hassan and Hussein are Angie and Azzedine Benhaffaf, and needless to say they were delighted that the surgery was successful. In a statement they said that, “Words cannot express the relief and love we feel for our two boys.”

According to the medical experts, the conjoined twins occur a single time in about 50,000 pregnancies in the developed countries.
