Conflicting statements by Malaysian government create confusion over Indian workers
March 6th, 2011 - 3:02 pm ICT by ANIJohor Baru, Mar.6 (ANI): Indian Businessmen in Malaysia who rely on workers from India are confused and angry over conflicting views on their status by the Human Resources Ministry and the Home Ministry.
Malaysian Associated Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry president K.K. Eswaran said they were delighted when Human Resources Minister Dr S. Subramaniam announced that the Government had approved 45,000 workers for thirteen sectors operated by Indian businessmen.
But they were disappointment as Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein stated that it was too early for the to the Government to give approval for these workers.
Eswaran said when the approval was first announced, many businessmen were happy with the news. This turned into anger and confusion after Hishammuddin’s conflicting statement.
He said the lack of workers continued to be one of the top grouses among local Indian businessmen, adding that there was a need for 200,000 workers for Indian-based businesses such as restaurants, grocery stores and textile shops.
He said that would continue discussions with the Government to address the shortage. (ANI)
