Sanaa, April 7 (DPA) A complex housing US citizens here was hit by three mortar shell late Sunday, but no casualty has been reported, the police said. There were no casualties when a complex housing US citizens in the Yemeni capital Sanaa was hit by three mortar shell late Sunday, police said.
Police officials said the attack was carried out from the backside of the complex in Sanaa at around 7:30 p.m. The attackers managed to escape, authorities said.
One shell hit a window of a building inside the complex, and the other shells landed on the ground.
Western families were seen evacuating the complex, and officials said they were being transferred to hotels.
The security official said that the terrorist network Al Qaeda was likely to be behind the blast, which was very similar to the attack in March on the US embassy in Sanaa.
An attack on the embassy with two bombs killed a Yemeni police officer dead and wounded seven people March 18.
