Colombian TV host held over rebel ties
November 16th, 2010 - 9:31 pm ICT by IANSBogota, Nov 16 (IANS/EFE) A Colombian TV host has been arrested in the country’s southern Huila province on charges of aiding leftist guerrillas, authorities said.
Angelica Ramirez provided information to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), police said.
The militants of the FARC’s 17th Front used the information to plan attacks and identify likely targets for extortion, police officer Col Flavio Mesa said.
Ramirez, who anchors a daily news programme on a regional network, denied the charges.
The FARC, which has about 7,000 fighters, battled a succession of Colombian governments since the mid-1960s.
