Bogota, March 19 (EFE) A man convicted of killing a journalist two years ago in the Colombian jungle province of Choco has been sentenced to 34 years in prison, judicial officials said.
Franklin Isnel Diaz Mosquera was sentenced by a criminal court in Quibdo, the capital of Choco, after being convicted of murder and illegal arms possession.
Elacio Murillo was shot dead Jan 10, 2007.
The journalist, who had previously served as a judge and held a seat in the provincial legislature, had reported on right-wing paramilitary groups operating in the province, located 500 km west of Bogota.
More than 130 journalists have been murdered in Colombia in the past 10 years, but the number of killings has dropped sharply in the past six years.
