Dec 14, (THAINDIAN NEWS) American boxing promoter Donald “Don” King preferably known as Don King was caught with ammunition after the airport security officials checked his carry-on luggage on Monday. Don King was stopped by security authorities at Cleveland’s Hopkins International Airport when he was going out of Cleveland after attending his wife’s funeral. Jackie Mayo, the spokesperson of the airport announced the news to the media.
Jackie Mayo said that Don King was stopped at the security checkpoint and the security found ammunition in his luggage. However, the spokesperson said that no charges were filed against the boxing promoter and only his belongings were confiscated by the airport authorities. Moreover, Don King was allowed to continue his flight on Monday as well. The Transportation Security Administration also confirmed the incident though they did not disclose the name of the passenger. Don King’s wife Henrietta King passed away last Thursday owing to her stomach cancer and the boxing promoter was in Cleveland to attend the funeral.
On the other hand, the media outlets are abuzz speculating the possible reason for Don King’s need for ammunition. However, the representative of the veteran boxing promoter was unavailable for any comments. The airport authorities reported that Don King was carrying ammunition for .357-caliber and .38-caliber hand guns in his pocket. Don King had brush with the law previously as well. Back in December 1954 he shot a man to death after the latter tried to rob him. However, later the judges called it a “justifiable homicide” as Don King had to kill the man to save his own life. Don King is well known for promoting “The Rumble in the Jungle” and the “Thrilla in Manila” and he has even worked with George Foreman, Joe Frazier, Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson.
