Washington DC, Jun 28 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Even children know that Osama bin Laden is the most wanted man in the world, and he has tens of millions of dollars as prize for his capture. However the Al Qaeda chief’s whereabouts are still unknown, according to the CIA.
CIA chief - Leon Panetta admitted in an interview on Sunday that “It has been years since the United States has had good intelligence on the whereabouts of Al Qaeda leader Osama bin laden, although he is thought to be in Pakistan”.
He also gave an honest account of the “war on terror” in Afghanistan saying that the Taliban seemed to be gaining ground on its horrific campaign, even though the US led forces are trying to cripple the terrorist movement by targeting and attacking its leaders.
Panetta said that even though progress was being made in the nine-year-old conflict, “it’s harder, it’s slower than I think anyone anticipated”.
Last week, President Barack Obama had fired General Stanley McChrystal as his top commander in Afghanistan and replaced him with General David Petraeus. The violence in Afghanistan has been increasing by leaps and bounds since 2001. The Taliban has been targeting the Kandahar heartland with numerous terrorist campaigns.
