Miami, March 7 (IANS) Daniel Chopra shot a one-under 70 and was lying tied 38th in the first round of the weather-hit first round of the Tampa Bay Championship at Palm Harbour Thursday. The first round could not be completed as 72 players were still out on the course when play was suspended due to fading light.
Chopra had three birdies, two of them on the back nine after starting from the tenth. He birdied the 14th and 16th and then dropped shots on third and sixth but picked a birdie on ninth, his closing hole.
Chopra, who won the Mercedes Benz Championships, the season opener, is currently ninth on Money List.
Bart Bryant grabbed a one-shot lead with two birdies in his last three holes for a flawless six-under 65.
Stewart Cink, Kenny Perry and Jeff Maggert opened with matching 66s and Swede Carl Pettersson was among a group of three on 67.
World number three Ernie Els, tournament favourite after winning his first title on US soil in nearly four years at last week’s Honda Classic, had yet to complete his round and was level after 11 holes.
