Chinese president meets Sri Lankan counterpart

Beijing, Aug 7 (Xinhua) Chinese President Hu Jintao Thursday met his Sri Lankan counterpart Mahinda Rajapakse, who is here to attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games. Hu extended a warm welcome to Rajapakse, saying he still remembered the amicable meeting with the Sri Lankan leader during the annual session of the Boao Economic Forum for Asia, held in April in China.

China and Sri Lanka have set a good example of bilateral cooperation with different national conditions and social systems, said Hu.

President Rajapakse congratulated China on the hosting of the Beijing Olympic Games, adding that he also felt proud of it as an Asian.

He thanked China for its long-time support and assistance and expressed his hope that the two sides could further enhance cooperation in trade and economic fields.
