Chinappa loses in Asian squash semi-finals

Kuwait City, Feb 20 (IANS) India’s Joshna Chinappa crashed out in the women’s semi-finals of the Asian Squash Championship won by Malaysia’s top seed Nicol David. Chinappa lost to Malaysia’s Sharon Wee 9-5, 4-9, 9-7, 9-5 in 55 minutes while David defeated Christina Mak of Hong Kong 9-0, 9-2, 9-0 in 16 minutes before beating second seed Rebecca Chiu of Hong Kong 9-5, 9-2, 9-2 in 34 minutes to win the title.

In the earlier rounds, Chinappa beat Wu Zhenzhen of China 9-0, 9-4, 9-1, then defeated Maria Toor Pakay of Pakistan 9-1, 9-6, 9-2 and got the better of Sharon Wee of Malaysia 9-5, 4-9, 9-7, 9-5 in quarter-finals.

In the men’s section, Saurav Ghosal and Siddharth Suchde lost in the quarter-finals. Abdullah Almezayen of Kuwait beat Ghosal 8-10, 9-4, 9-1, 9-3 in 72 minutes and second seed Ong Beng Hee of Malaysia overcame Suchde 9-2, 9-3, 8-10, 9-2 in 62 minutes.
