Beijing, March 29 (IANS) China Tuesday welcomed a dialogue between Pakistan and India, hoping the two countries can address differences and achieve mutual development.
“India and Pakistan, both important countries in South Asia, are China’s good neighbours, and the improvement of Pakistan-India ties is conducive to peace and stability in the region,” Xinhua quoted Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu as saying.
Jiang’s remarks came a day ahead of the India-Pakistan World Cup semifinal match.
Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has accepted an invitation from his Indian counterpart, Manmohan Singh, to watch the semi-final match in Mohali.
“We welcome India and Pakistan to establish contact and a dialogue, and we support the two countries properly addressing differences through dialogue and cooperation to achieve common development,” said Jiang.
Indian Home Secretary G.K. Pillai and his Pakistani counterpart Qamar Zaman met Monday and Tuesday in Delhi in what is being seen as a first step towards advancing the re-initiated peace process stalled after 10 Pakistani terrorists killed 166 people in Mumbai attack in November 2008.
