China to make movie on earthquake
December 25th, 2011 - 9:59 am ICT by IANSBeijing, Dec 25 (IANS) China will shoot a movie featuring a true survival story in a devastating magnitude-8 earthquake, officials said.
The movie would be based on a true story of a miner who was rescued from a 30-metre-deep mine shaft a week after the earthquake jolted Wenchuan in southwest Sichuan province in May 2008.
Over 80,000 people were affected in the disaster, Xinhua reported.
The miner named Peng Guohua survived by drinking urine and rain water and eating paper.
The film would cost an estimated five million yuan ($790,000) with most actors being local residents. It is expected to hit cinemas in July next year.
Apart from the Mandarin version, the film is expected to have a Sichuan dialect version.
Another film, “Aftershock”, featuring a magnitude-7.8 earthquake in Tangshan in 1976, was a box-office hit last year.
