China to give $4.7 mn emergency aid to Pakistan

Yousuf Raza Gilani Islamabad, Sep 11 (IANS) China will provide Pakistan emergency humanitarian aid of 30 million yuan (around $4.7 million) to help the flood-affected people in the country’s south, the Chinese ambassador to Pakistan said Sunday.

Liu Jian called on Pakistani Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar Sunday to express the sympathy and solidarity of the Chinese people withPakistan, Xinhua reported.

Diplomats and staff at the Chinese embassy in Islamabad recently voluntarily donated Rs.600,000 (about $6,860) for people affected by the floods.

Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi has also sent a message to his Pakistani counterpart expressing condolences for the victims and sympathy for the affected people.

Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said at least 141 people have died and four million have been left homeless in the floods that hit the southern regions of the country.
