New Delhi, Mar 3 (ANI): With food security gradually occupying priority on its agenda, China might ban the use of organic compound Bisphenol A (BPA) in plastic baby bottles.

“The authorities have begun a research on the dissolution volume of BPA in baby bottles so as to assess its impact on the infants’ health,” said Li Ning, deputy director of the nutrition and food safety institute under the Chinese Center of Disease Control and Prevention Center.

The Ministry of Health had issued a draft list of legal substance in food packages at its official website last month to seek public views.

As per the draft, BPA was barred from being used in vessels having direct contacts with baby food.

The Europe Union will ban the use of BPA in baby bottles as from June 1, China’s Xinhua news agency reports. The European Food Safety Authority, which was found in September 2010, said that BPA is safe up to a daily intake of 0.05 milligrams per kilo of bodyweight, but it also raised some query with regard to the possible impact of the chemical on children.
