China sets up Internet information office
May 4th, 2011 - 2:23 pm ICT by ANIBeijing, May 4(ANI): The Chinese government has established the State Internet Information Office to direct, coordinate and supervise online content management and handle the administration of online news reporting.
The office will be responsible for promoting the construction of major news websites and managing government online publicity work. It is entrusted with supervising telecom service providers to improve the management of registration of domain names, distribution of IP addresses, registration of websites and Internet access. It is also vested with the power to investigate and punish websites violating laws.
According to China Daily reports, the State Council of China has appointed four senior officials for the State Internet Information Office. It is headed by Wang Chen, director of the State Council’s Information Office. (ANI)
