China sentences six more to death over July riots
October 15th, 2009 - 7:10 pm ICT by IANSUrumqi (China), Oct 15 (IANS) A court in China sentenced six more people to death for murder and other crimes during riots here in July, officials said Thursday.
At least 197 people were killed and more than 1,600 injured during riots in northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
The sentences given by the Urumqi Intermediate People’s Court is related to three separate cases filed in the provincial capital Urumqi, Xinhua reported.
On Oct 12, the court sentenced six other people to death for various crimes, including murder, during riots.
The public prosecutors presented testimonies of witnesses, autopsy reports and other evidences at the court during the trial.
