China, Saudi Arabia vow to enhance ties
January 16th, 2012 - 5:11 pm ICT by IANSRiyadh, Jan 16 (IANS) Visiting Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao and Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz have vowed to enhance bilateral relations.
Wen, who arrived here Saturday after an official visit to Nepal, said that Saudi Arabia plays a significant role in regional and international affairs.
He said China is willing to strengthen cooperation with Saudi Arabia in the areas of energy, trade and investment, infrastructure, technology, finance and security.
Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz, who is also the prime minister of Saudi Arabia, during their meeting proposed setting up a joint committee to supervise cooperation between the two sides, Xinhua reported Sunday.
Wen said China respects the aspirations of the people in West Asia and North Africa and support their appeal for reforms. He backed the role of regional groups like the Arab League in maintaining stability.
The Saudi king noted it was the objective of Saudi Arabia’s foreign policy to maintain regional peace and stability.
Wen was also expected to visit the UAE and Qatar.
