China, Russia pledge close ties
May 9th, 2010 - 9:59 pm ICT by IANSMoscow, May 9 (IANS) Visiting Chinese President Hu Jintao and his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev pledged to strengthen bilateral cooperation during a meeting here Sunday.
Ties between the two countries made important headway last year with activities marking the 60th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations and “Year of the Russian language” in China.
Hu said the two countries should increase cooperation on issues concerning mutual interests, comprehensively deepening people-to-people contact and cultural exchanges, Xinhua reported.
Medvedev said both sides should make every effort to promote strategic relations by strengthening cooperation in the fields of trade, finance, energy and transportation.
Hu is in Moscow for celebrations marking the 65th anniversary of the victory of the Great Patriotic War over Nazi Germany.
