China quake toll rises to 25
March 11th, 2011 - 9:13 am ICT by IANSBeijing, March 11 (IANS) The toll from an earthquake that hit China’s southwest Yunnan province Thursday has risen to 25, officials said.
In a statement released late Thursday, the provincial civil affairs department said 250 people were injured in the magnitude 5.8 earthquake that hit Yingjiang county, of which 134 were in serious condition, Xinhua reported.
The temblor toppled 1,039 homes and left 4,994 seriously damaged, mainly near the border with Myanmar, it said.
The provincial disaster relief committee has dispatched 9,700 tents, 15,000 quilts, 15,000 clothes and other materials to the quake-hit region.
