Beijing, July 2 (Xinhua) China has praised the domestic media for its timely and transparent coverage of rescue and relief operations after the May 12 earthquake that killed thousands and left over a million homeless. “The earthquake plunged the whole nation into deep sorrow, but media workers began non-stop coverage right away,” a statement by China’s national media regulators said Tuesday.
“In the past two months, their quick, transparent reports played an irreplaceable role in heartening the public and pushing forward disaster rescue and relief. Their work also won general acclaim in the international community,” said the statement from the General Administration of Press and Publication and the All China Journalists Association.
The media regulators hailed 41 news organisation and 143 journalists for their relentless efforts to cover all aspects of the quake aftermath.
Among the media organisations termed exemplary were the People’s Daily, the CCTV and Xinhua news agency.
