China opposes India’’s trade probes
January 24th, 2009 - 8:25 pm ICT by ANI Beijing, Jan. 24 (ANI): Chinese government has expressed serious concern over safeguard measures placed by India on products like Chinese-made sodium nitrite and sodium carbonate.
Chinese commerce ministry spokesman, Yao Jian has stated that China had urged domestic business authorities to contact their Indian peers and solve trade issues through talks and cooperation, the chinaview.com reports.
But India didn”t respond to Chinese efforts and launched its first anti-subsidy probe over Chinese-made sodium nitrite. China expresses dissatisfaction over it, Yao said.
China also expressed opposition to India’’s probe into the special safeguard measure on sodium carbonate, the spokesman added.
The probe not only hurts the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese business, but has negative impact on the stable bilateral trade relations, Yao said.
China hoped that India could show prudence and restraint in using trade remedies, as trade protectionism could only add to the current global financial crisis.
He added that China and India should work in collaboration to promote the industries in what he called two developing nations. (ANI)
