China jails eight for selling fake sex pills
November 9th, 2011 - 10:59 am ICT by IANSBeijing, Nov 9 (IANS) Eight members of a counterfeit ring in China have been jailed for producing and selling fake Viagra and other sex pills across the country, officials said.
The eight were sentenced to up to 34 months in jail by a Shanghai court, Xinhua reported.
The people were arrested in a year-long police crackdown that saw the seizure of 840,000 tablets valued at 30 million yuan (around $4.7 million), officials said.
They made the fake drugs in rural workshops, mixing Chinese herbs with anti-impotence drug Sildenafil. The products were named after Viagra, Xilishi, Black Ants, Lion King and more than 60 other international brands, officials said.
The fake medicines were sold either online or in sex shops in Shanghai, Guangzhou and other places, they said.
