China executes four Tibetans for 2008 Lhasa riots, claims NGO
October 23rd, 2009 - 11:25 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Oct 23 (IANS) China has reportedly executed four Tibetans this week for taking part in the unrest in Lhasa last year, according to a Dharamsala-based Tibetan human rights group.
As per a release issued by the Tibetan government in exile, the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy which monitors the situation inside Tibet, had received “confirmed information from reliable sources that at least four Tibetans were executed under the supervision of the Lhasa Municipality Intermediate People’s Court on Tuesday”.
Three of those allegedly executed were identified as Lobsang Gyaltsen (27), Loyak (25) and Penkyi (21).
Condemning the execution, the centre has urged the Chinese government to show restraint and ensure fair trials to others facing death sentences and other charges.
It has also called on the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Extra Judicial, Summary, or Arbitrary Execution and the international community to pay urgent attention to the situation inside Tibet.
The Tibetan body said no information on the execution of four Tibetans was reported anywhere in the Chinese state media.
