China detects ‘extremely low level radiation’ from Japan
March 29th, 2011 - 1:08 pm ICT by ANIBeijing, Mar.29 (ANI): China has detected extremely low levels of radioactive material in the air from Japan’s crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.
According to a statement issued by China’s National Nuclear Emergency Coordination Committee, the radiations have been detected in the air above country’s southeastern coastal areas and the levels of radioactive materials will not affect public health or the environment.
Experts said no protective measures are required against the materials, The Xinhua reports.
“The incident at Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant hasn’t had any impact on the environment and people’s health in China thus far,” said the statement.
According to the statement, the conclusion was based on the monitoring and analysis results from the Beijing-based Regional Specialized Meteorological Center affiliated with the World Meteorological Organization and the International Atomic Energy Agency, the State Oceanic Administration and the Ministry of Environmental Protection.
Earlier, China detected radioactive iodine-131 in the air of China’s Heilongjiang Province. (ANI)
