Eight-hundred boxes of waterbottles were Thursday air-lifted from China’s northeastern city of Changchun.
The cargo arrived in Japan’s Niigata city the same day before it was taken by road to Sendai, the capital of Miyagi prefecture, one of the worst hit areas of last week’s magnitude 9 quake, China Daily reported.
The drinking water was provided by the Jilin provincial government after a request from Japan, said Duan Yingli, an official with the provincial government.
Besides funds and relief materials, Beijing has dispatched a 15-member rescue team to Japan. The commerce ministry said it is providing 30 million yuan (about $4 million) worth of emergency humanitarian assistance to Japan.
The first lot of 2,000 blankets, 900 tents and 200 emergency lights was delivered early this week. China has also pledged 20,000 tonnes of fuel to Japan.
