China deletes 400,000 weblinks for copyright violation

crackdown on rampant infringements, the Copyright Protection Center of China has deleted over 400,000 unauthorised internet audio video links since June 2010.
Copyright owners are informed by letter if infringements on their works are found by the center’s round-the-clock monitoring service, Xinhua reported.
So far, more than 2,400 such letters have been sent.
According to an official statement, the center had launched services for both domestic and overseas copyright owners last summer. Since then, it has detected over 410,000 links of copied video and audio materials and deleted 97 percent of them.
The Chinese government has been cracking down on intellectual property violations by launching frequent, high-profile raids and campaigns.
According to China’s General Administration of Press and Publication, from October 2010 to June, authorities seized over 13 million illegal audio and video products and print publications in a nationwide campaign.
