China busts counterfeit drug racket
December 30th, 2011 - 5:21 am ICT by IANSBeijing, Dec 30 (IANS) Chinese authorities have busted over 1,800 illegal factories that made or sold counterfeit drugs, involving billions of yaun, over the past two years.
The State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) said the business was worth 3.35 billion yuan ($530 million).
Thirteen government departments and over one million law enforcement staff were involved in the crackdown. More than 5,000 kinds of illegal products were seized, SFDA said.
SFDA deputy head Bian Zhenjia said Thursday that more than 28,000 on-site inspections in medicine factories were carried out. He said SFDA will step up supervisions and crackdowns on the online sale of fake drugs.
