China bus accident kills 24

Urumqi (China), Aug 13 (Xinhua) At least 24 people, including children, were killed Tuesday when a bus overturned in China’s northwestern region of Xinjiang Uygur, officials said. The accident occurred at around 2 p.m. on the highway between Akqi County and Atux City.

Most of the dead are students who were accompanied by parents to a health-checkup camp after having passed their high school entrance examination.

The local officials and residents were involved in the rescue work.

The cause of the accident is being investigated.

The site of the accident is about 1,180 km from the regional capital of Urumqi.
