China begins restoring ancient town

Beijing, May 27 (IANS) China has begin restoring an ancient town where there is now a village whose residents have wavy blond hair, hooked noses, and blue or green eyes.

Work has started on the 200 million yuan ($30 million) project to restore the ancient town of Liqian in northwest China’s Gansu province, reported China Daily quoting the Lanzhou Morning Post.

The remains of an ancient fortification, which is similar to Roman defence structures and covering about one square kilometre, will be restored. Also, Roman-style residential buildings, a temple, a street and a square will be rebuilt.

The media report said that now Liqian is a village having less than 100 households.

The villagers have physical features like wavy blond hair, hooked noses, and blue or green eyes.
