China bans entry of tourist in Tibet
March 8th, 2011 - 12:20 pm ICT by ANIBeijing, Mar.8 (ANI): The Chinese Government has banned the entry of foreign visitors to Tibet as the third anniversary of anti-government riots approaches.
Regions top official confirmed the ban after travel agents reported orders not to arrange trips for tourists, who need a special permit to visit the region in addition to the visa for China.
Communist party secretary in Tibet Zhang Qingli said there were “some control measures” for safety reasons, citing potential overcrowding and freezing winter weather.
“It’s not that the anti-Chinese forces and the Dalai clique haven’t thought of it but the fact is they haven’t been able to stir up any unrest since the March 14 incident”, The Guardian quoted Zhang, as saying.
Nearly 22 people, mostly Chinese died in 2008, when Tibetans took to the streets of the capital, Lhasa, burning shops and attacking people. Unrest rippled out across other Tibetan areas in China.
The government blamed the unrest on the Dalai Lama, accusing him of seeking a separate state. (ANI)
